1. What’s the difference between application software and system software?
Application software is the software you use to do everyday tasks at home, school, and work.
EX: Application software includes Word Processing software and finance programs, Media software, games or education programs, and small business software.
System software is the software that helps run the computer and coordinates instructions between application software and the computer’s hardware devices.
EX: Operating system and utility programs
Windows, MAC
2. What kinds of applications are included in productivity software?
Word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, note taking, personal information and database programs
3. What are the most common operating systems?
Microsoft Windows is the most popular OS. MAC OS
Linux – open sources operating system based on UNIX and is designed for personal computers
4. How does the operating system interact with application software?
ALL software programs need to interact with the CPU. For programs to work with CPU, they must contain code
5. What are the main desktop and windows features?
The desktop provides you first interaction with the OS and is the first image you see on your monitor once the system has booted up.
It provides you with access to your computers files, folders, and commonly used tools and applications.
